The summer’s war in Lebanon has yielded some positive results, albeit not on the battlefield or halls of Knesset.

Israeli hospitals have reported a steep rise in the number of pregnancy following the war, with 35% more five-to-seven month pregnant women than there were at this same time last year.

Army Radio quoted a Tel Aviv Hospital director as saying that such baby booms followed all of Israel’s wars, and proved that “the nation of Israel lives.”

Northern Rivers to Get Makeover

Due to the increase in donations and government focus on rehabilitating northern Israel, fourteen rivers in the region will be systematically cleaned in the coming months.

The project will cost 240 million shekels according to the Environmental Ministry and will involve cleaning both banks of 234 kilometers of river. One bank of each of the rivers will be restored to its natural state while the other will be outfitted for tourism.

The Kinneret Authority says the project will generate 600 million shekels in private tourism-sector investments, as well as 2,000 new jobs.
