Brettler, for whom this is his second child, is a resident of one of the outposts near Shvut Rachel and Shilo, in the Binyamin region. The road from Shilo to the Jordan Valley is populated by several such neighborhoods, including Adei Ad (18 families), Yishuv HaDaat (three families), Kidah, and Achiyah (both with approximately 20), and Kidah.
Three months ago, Meir was handed administrative orders - signed by IDF Central Commander Gen. Yair Naveh, at the behest of the Shabak (General Security Service) -banning him from his home for the next six months. Some 20 others received similar orders around the same time, for periods of between three and twelve months.
The young man originally refused to adhere to the orders, and was placed in jail for his efforts. However, he recently agreed to the Shabak terms, because of his wife's impending delivery, and was freed from prison.
Though Brettler advertised his planned presence at his son's ritual circumcision in his home community, and issued public invitations for people to attend, no uniformed police or security agents were present, and the father was not arrested. He and his wife named their new son Binyamin.
Among the 100 people in attendance today were the rabbis of Beit El and Yitzhar, Rabbis Melamed and Dudkevitch, as well as MK Aryeh Eldad. Musician Ariel Zilber provided the joyous music.
