The investigation will be limited in its scope, said an aide to Attorney General Menachem Mazuz, as opposed to the wide-ranging criminal probe demanded by Peace Now.
“We see no reason to open a general criminal investigation,” State Prosecution attorney Eyal Yanun told Haaretz.
The Ministry of Justice has also begun a review of recommendations made by the State Comptroller’s office relating to the matter of allegedly illegal outposts.
The probe by the attorney general’s office will focus on only the specific issues noted in the report by the state comptroller. The names of the personages to be investigated were not publicized.
“We do not feel that the phenomenon in general, despite its gravity, befits a criminal investigation, with the exception of a few specific aspects, which will be investigated,” said Yanun.
