Hundreds of demonstrators from around the country showed up at the house of President Katzav today for a quiet vigil, to ask Mr. Katzav to pardon Margalit Har Shefi. Har-Shefi is scheduled to begin a nine-month prison sentence this coming Wednesday, following her conviction of knowing in advance of Yigal Amir\'s plans to murder Yitzchak Rabin and of not stopping him. She has consistently denied knowing of Amir\'s intentions. At the vigil, Soviet Refusenik Ida Nudel spoke on behalf of Margalit, as did Women-in-Green leader Nadia Matar.

President Moshe Katzav stated that he would give the request for a pardon careful consideration, but would not comment until he has had ample time to review all the facts in the case and has consulted with experts and advisors.
