An Arab man hurled stones at Jews visiting the Machpelah Cave in Hevron, where the Jewish patriarchs and matriarchs are buried. An American Jew visiting the site, Judaism’s second holiest, was lightly injured. The Arab was apprehended by the police.
Such attacks have taken place with increasing frequency in recent weeks, in addition to several cases of Arabs with knives being caught on their way to carry out attacks.
The second attack occurred just hours later, when Arabs hurled stones at a Jewish motorist driving near Tekoa, in eastern Gush Etzion.
IDF Special Forces arrested senior Al-Aksa Brigades terrorist Khaled Salahat Sunday, near Al Quds University in Abu Dis. Salahat is considered one the most wanted men in the region, and is one of the founding members of Bethlehem's Al Aqsa infrastructure.
Salahat was involved in several murders of IDF soldiers. He oversaw the killing of an IDF soldier near Bethlehem in a shooting attack on October 2, 2000. Two weeks later, on October 17, he organized a shooting attack on Jerusalem's Gilo neighborhood, which critically injured a Border Police officer. Two weeks after that, on November 1, he himself carried out a shooting attack near Bethlehem, killing an IDF officer and soldier and wounding three others. He was also involved in a thwarted kidnapping attempt of an IDF officer.
