Army Radio quoted Histadrut officials who say negotiations between government officials and the labor union are not going well. They say the government’s lackluster efforts to pay the workers, who are owed months of overdue salaries, necessitate a renewal of the strike.
A one-day strike last week ended with a back-to-work order by the National Labor Court, which also ordered the government to pay the workers by the end of the week.
Histadrut head Ofer Eini expressed pessimism over whether the crisis would be averted prior to the renewal of the strike Thursday.
“I am not optimistic, because I know the facts,” said Eini, “and I see how the representatives of the state have been dealing with this all week.”
The strike will presumably affect the same services as last week’s: airport service, municipal services, government ministries and others. Parking tickets will not be issued.
