IDF forces entered PA-controlled Bethlehem and Beit Jala after midnight last night. The operation in Bethlehem was bried, and military forces have already pulled out. Armored forces accompanied by infantry and engineering corps troops are still operating inside Beit Jala.
This marks the 3rd time Israeli forces have entered Beit Jala: Once in 1967 during the Six Day War, until December 1995; again for a few days in August of this year; and now.
The latest action comes in response to the renewal of terrorist shooting and mortar attacks against southern Jerusalem residents last night. No residents were hurt, although some homes were damaged. One soldiers was seriously wounded in the offensive and is undergoing emergency surgery.
