The IDF, against its own recommendations, instituted a number of changes in its deployment in Judea and Samaria during the night - most notably, withdrawing from the Abu Sneineh and Haret a-Sheikh hills overlooking the Jewish neighborhoods in Hevron. The political fallout was immediate, in the form of the resignation of the National Union-Yisrael Beiteinu (7 Knesset seats) from the coalition.
Other changes made by the army include the removal of the Surda checkpoint north of Ramallah, and the Kalandia checkpoint south of Ramallah on the way to Jerusalem. Free Arab travel is now permitted around Jericho. Jibril Rajoub\'s forces, which came from Ramallah via Jerusalem and Gush Etzion, took over Abu Sneineh from the IDF (see article 6 below).
