The victim, who appears to be in his 60's, suffered wounds in his shoulder. He was first treated on the spot by a Magen David Adom emergency crew, and then evacuated in moderate condition to Hadassah Ein Karem Medical Center. Hadassah spokesperson Yael Levi later said his condition had improved and stablized.

The paramedic who treated him found him on his stomach in the offices of the cosmetics plant in which he works, with an 8-inch knife protruding from his back. He was evacuated to the hospital with the knife in his back.

The victim told the paramedic that when he exited his car in the factory parking lot, he felt a blow to the back, turned around and saw a young Arab fleeing. Feeling pain in his back, he checked the area with his hand and discovered the knife.

The attacker escaped the scene, but the police have arrested several suspects.

Some 4,000 people are employed in various factories and businesses in Atarot, among them 1,500 Arabs. The area is surrounded on all sides by Arab villages and Arab neighborhoods of Jerusalem. Jerusalem Mayor Uri Lupoliansky has recently called for the area to become a free trade zone, with no Value Added Tax charged on goods and raw materials for export products.

Atarot was a booming industrial zone until the late 1980's when repeated Arab terror attacks drove out some of the major businesses, including a central Mashbir Department Store warehouse, the Pereg Heating Company plant, and a lumber yard.
