Senior Hamas terrorist Abdel Rahman Hamed was about to pass through his front door this morning in Kalkilye, just east of Kfar Saba, to begin what he thought would be a routine day of plotting terrorist attacks against Israeli civilians. His plans came to an abrupt end, however, when a single shot hit him in the head. PLO sources announced the killing, but could not say from what direction or distance the bullet came. Hamed was high on Israel\'s list of wanted terrorists for numerous atrocities - including planning and expediting the suicide massacre outside the Tel Aviv Dolphinarium this past June in which 21 people, mostly young new immigrants to Israel, were murdered and 100 were wounded. Hamed also dispatched a bomber last March who blew himself up next to a group of teenagers waiting for a bus on the Cross-Shomron highway; two students were killed and four were wounded.

IDF sources say that Hamed, who was among the 400 Hamas expellees who were allowed to return from Lebanon in 1985, was planning a major suicide attack for the coming days. The army provided the Palestinian Authority with information about Hamed several times, and the PA in fact arrested him once for a brief period over the summer.
