Some of the bloodiest battles since the war began have taken place in the village which is known throughout Lebanon as the Hizbullah capital of the south.
Two IDF paratroopers were killed late Tuesday evening in clashes at Bint Jbeil.
Both were members of an elite reconnaissance unit; they were identified as 21 year old Staff Sergeant Oren Lifschitz of Kibbutz Gazit and 21 year old Staff Sergeant Moran Cohen of Kibbutz Ashdot Yaakov. A soldier from the unit’s search and rescue team was killed trying to evacuate one of the paratroopers after first treating him on the battlefield.
Seven soldiers were wounded during the fight, including one with serious wounds and another moderately injured after their tank was hit by an anti-tank missile. A second tank was also hit in the battle. Two soldiers were killed and seven were wounded on Monday in the same village.
IDF soldiers had been carrying out ongoing counter-terrorism operations since capturing the village on July 26.
