The visitors will tour Haifa and other northern areas, and will meet with Israeli soldiers.

"Every Jewish mother around the world sees the IDF soldiers in Lebanon, reservists and standing army soldiers alike, as if they were her own sons," said delegation head Marilyn Post, former Hadassah president.

"I felt a tremendous need to fly to Israel immediately," said Marcy Nathan, financial officer of the Pennsylvania chapter of Hadassah, "and to encourage the people of Israel at this difficult hour." Leah Silverstein said, "I was sick of sitting in Chicago and just watching the news. I had to go to Israel and show my solidarity."

Other Trips

New York politicians are also making solidarity trips to Israel. Following a three-day trip by New York Assemblyman Dov Hikind to northern Israel last week, Democratic Party Congressmen Anthony Weiner and Jerrold Nadler of New York are heading to Israel today for a six-day visit.

Rep. Weiner will meet with Prime Minister Olmert, the mayor of Haifa, and government ministers, and will visit victims of the Hizbullah attacks. A spokesman for Rep. Weiner said the trip is intended to "show solidarity with the people of Israel as they fight the war on terror." The Jewish Community Relations Council and the UJA-Federation of New York are funding the trip.

Florida Rally

In Clearwater, Florida, more than 600 people rallied and marched in solidarity with Israel on Sunday afternoon. Organized by the Jewish Federation of Pinellas County at Temple B'nai Israel, the rally's speakers included Israeli spokesman Raanan Gissin, local Jewish Federation President Dr. David Wolstein, local rabbis, and Congressmen. Participants reported experiencing great spirit and enthusiasm.

Project "Galilee Spirit"

Assisting the tourism industry in Israel’s northern region, which has suffered greatly as a result of the Hizbullah attacks on the area, is the goal of a new Israeli-American project. The Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations released this statement of explanation:

“This incredibly beautiful area, with its many tourist attractions and wonderful facilities, has been under siege for weeks. As a result, the tourism industry has come to a halt during its busiest season..."

The Galilee Spirit project will enable people to reserve nights in the affected hotels, guesthouses and bed and breakfasts, which they will pay now and receive a voucher that can be redeemed until June 30, 2007. The vouchers can also be transferred to friends and family and used on any available non-holiday weekday. The project will continue for one month, through the end of August. As an enhancement, El Al Israel Airlines in the US will provide a $100 discount coupon for future flights for those participating in the project.
