The ministerial committee dealing with government ceremonies decided to declare this Thursday (Oct.11) a national day of memorial for the some 50 Israeli victims of Siberia Airlines flight 1812 that went down into the Black Sea last week. The Memorial Day will be celebrated one week after the plane was downed, apparently by a wayward missile fired during a Ukrainian military exercise. All flags flown from government buildings will be lowered to half-mast, a special Knesset memorial session will be held, and state-run Israel Radio will be requested to play appropriate music during the day. Family members returned last night from the crash site, where they attempted to identify their loved ones and held a memorial ceremony.
