An Arab suicide bomber detonated his explosive charge this morning at the entrance to Kibbutz Sheluchot in the Jordan Valley region, claiming the life of Yair Mordechai, 46, a kibbutz member. The Arab bomber apparently planned to enter the religious commune on foot, but when Mordechai stopped his vehicle next to him, most likely to check his identity, the Arab exploded the charge killing the two of them. Kibbutz members are saying that Mordechai\'s alertness prevented what potentially would have been a mass murder. Mordechai had recently remarried and had one baby child.
One kibbutz mother who was driving her baby daughter past the scene as the terrorist detonated his charge said that the blast flipped Mordechai\'s car upside down. She and her baby were unhurt, and she quickly called for help.
Police originally reported that the two dead bodies were both Arab bombers. At that stage, a PLO official told Ynet that it was the IDF which exploded the charge to kill two Arab workers.
