The Homefront Commander said that in light of the current situation, Israelis should continue to monitor and comply with IDF instructions. Addressing those civilians in range of the rockets currently fired by the Lebanese attackers, Maj.-Gen. Gershon issued detailed precautions to be taken.

The Homefront Command instructed those citizens living in the Carmiel and Tiberias areas, which have been struck over the Sabbath, to remain in protected rooms in their homes, far from doorways, windows and external walls. Residents of Haifa, Acco (Acre) and nearby areas have been instructed to remain in their homes.

Residents of the most northern communities, referred to by the Homefront Command as the "frontline", are to remain in communal bomb shelters.

In addition, the Homefront Command asks all residents of the north of the country to avoid large gatherings and to stay tuned to the media for further instructions.

More information is available on the Homefront Command website or one may telephone 1207 in Israel.

In other homefront news, three Patriot anti-ballistic missile batteries have been placed in Haifa over the Sabbath. Military sources noted that this is the first time the anti-ballistic missile system is being deployed in Israel in a number of years. Haifa has special strategic significance, being home to a major seaport, as well as primary Israel Electric Company power station, and oil refineries.

Defense Minister Amir Peretz may declare a "state-of-emergency" on Israel's homefront as a result of the ongoing rocket attacks from southern Lebanon. Such a declaration carries certain ramifications for civilians, including the ability of security agencies to order the closure of schools and summer programs, as well as activating essential services and factories, compelling employees to report to work. The cabinet will discuss such a move on Sunday, at the weekly cabinet meeting.
