Chananya Ben-Avraham, a 45-year-old resident of Elad Mazor and father of six, was murdered this morning while driving near Avnei Chafetz, east of Netanya. Terrorists opened fire at his car from close range - apparently from a stationary vehicle parked on the side of the road - striking him in his back. His Toyota veered out of control and crashed. Despite resuscitation efforts, he was pronounced dead on the scene. Security officials surmise that the perpetrators of the attack escaped to safe haven in nearby PLO-controlled Tul Karm. The IDF has not announced the results of ballistic tests which would indicate whether the weapons used were amongst the thousands of assault rifles authorized by the Rabin-Peres government for transfer to the PLO in the framework of the Oslo accords.

Ben-Avraham will be laid to rest this afternoon in Barakat. He was a founding member of the community of Kfar Tapuach.
