The 3-disc set, released by the Shavei Israel organization, is entitled "Nuestro Pensamiento" (Our Thought), and contains a series of lectures by Rabbi Alfredo Goldschmidt [pictured above]. Rabbi Goldschmidt is the Chief Rabbi of the Jewish community of Bogota, Colombia, and director of the city’s Colegio Hebreo.
In the lectures, Rabbi Goldschmidt explores the ideas and impact of prominent Jewish thinkers throughout the ages, from the Biblical Prophets to Maimonides to the late Rabbi Joseph B. Soloveitchik.

The series also analyzes the role and influence of Kabbalah and Hasidism on modern Jewish thought, evaluates the birth of the Reform movement in the context of the Enlightenment, and surveys different ideological streams within Zionism.
“The goal of these CDs,” said Rabbi Goldschmidt, “is to give the Spanish-speaking public a general picture regarding the basic concepts of Judaism. By grasping the principles of our faith, the listener will be able to better understand and internalize the structure of Jewish tradition, thereby connecting himself to the heritage of his forefathers.”
“I hope that the lectures contained on the CDs will encourage people to continue to learn and to deepen their knowledge of our precious heritage,” he said.
Shavei Israel Chairman Michael Freund noted that the new set on Jewish Thought and Philosophy is the second in a series on basic Judaism that his organization has published in an effort to meet the growing need for Jewish educational materials in Spanish.
The previous set, “Nuestro Judaismo” (Our Judaism), was released last September. It consists of 7 CDs and contains lectures by Rabbi Goldschmidt on fundamental aspects of Judaism such as the Sabbath and keeping Kosher.
“We work with Jews and Bnai Anousim [people whose ancestors were forced to convert to Catholicism at the time of the Inquisition] in a variety of Spanish-speaking countries,” Freund said, “and there is a great demand for material in Spanish. We are confident that Rabbi Goldschmidt’s lectures on Jewish thought and philosophy will help to fill this important need.”
Based in Jerusalem, Shavei Israel reaches out and assists “lost Jews” seeking to return to the Jewish people. All of the organization's work is in accordance with Jewish law and is under the guidance and supervision of Israel's Chief Rabbinate.
