Hamas spokesman Sami Abu-Zuhri rejected Abbas’s idea of a 10-day deadline, stating, "There is no need for the 10-day idea. As long as we are talking about dialogue, there shouldn't be any dates set." Abbas has threatened that he will hold a national referendum within 40 days if Hamas does not accept the plan within ten days.

The plan drafted by the imprisoned terrorists is an attempt to bring peace between the warring Hamas and Fatah factions. It also calls for a two-state solution following additional Israeli withdrawals, as well as continued Arab struggle - i.e., terrorism - and the 'right of return,' i.e., the influx of millions of Arabs into Judea and Samaria, and possibly the rest of Israel, from neighboring Arab countries. The plan also demands the authors' own release from prison.

No official Israeli response to the plan has been reported.

Increased tension was reported in Gaza City on Saturday when members of a militia controlled by the Hamas, who were taken off the streets on Friday at the order of a Hamas government minister, were redeployed at various points throughout the city.

Abbas-aide Yasser Abed Rabbo said the PA chairman would invite prime minister Ismail Haniyeh and other senior Hamas officials to discuss the plan on Sunday.
