Widespread terrorist attacks accompanied the Sabbath throughout Israel, including areas in Judea, Samaria and Gaza. Security officials on Saturday night reported that over the Sabbath there were 54 attacks.



Mortar shells were launched against Gaza communities three times on Friday night and for the first time, against a community in Judea. A mortar shell landed near the Gush Etzion community of Tekoa at about 12:45am Saturday morning. One child was treated for shock in Gaza following one of the attacks. There were no injuries in the other mortar attacks.



There were attacks involving grenades, automatic gunfire, firebombs and rocks. Eleven Israelis were wounded in the violence that included attacks throughout Gaza, Hevron, Shomron areas and inside the capital.



Burning tires were rolled onto the French Hill – Maale Adumim road and firebombs were thrown at security forces in the northern capital near Shuafat. Trashcans were set ablaze in the A-Tor area of Jerusalem and security forces were attacked with rocks.



Shooting was reported throughout the morning in Hevron, with two soldiers sustaining light wounds near Beit Hadassah.



On Saturday night, the attacks continue. Shooting was reported against the communities of N’vei Dekalim, Psagot, Chomesh, Tapuach as well as attacks involving gunfire aimed at motorists in Judea and Samaria. Gunfire was also directed at two motorists on the road between Maale Adumim and the French Hill neighborhood of Jerusalem. There were no injuries.



As a result of the sharp decline in the security situation over the Sabbath, Prime Minister Ariel Sharon has called for a Saturday night meeting of his security cabinet to discuss the latest wave of PA terror.
