Despite his bonhomie, however, a television series produced by the government-owned and controlled Egyptian Radio and Television Union and shown on the PMW website tells a very different tale of how Egypt really sees its role in history and world politics, and that of the U.S.

“Man in the Era of Globalization” is a popular Egyptian television series that recently finished its second season on Palestinian Authority TV. Video clips from the program are available on the Palestinian Media Watch website. Its name belies its intent, however. The series presents, in a sitcom setting, a dialogue of distortions and outright lies which are calculated to create negative images of the United States, as well as Israel, in the minds of the viewers.

The U.S. is depicted as a leader of imperialist forces in the world, leading the viewer to blame America for the serious problems that plague the Arab world today. Israel is shown as a world-class terror group, with a clever dialogue that has a boy raising the question of whether “the Zionists” were responsible for the attack which destroyed the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001, murdering more than 3,000 people in less than an hour’s time. Dialogue response to the question: “It’s not impossible,” says his father, thoughtfully.

Even the Native Americans receive an honorable mention in the series, referred to as America’s first victims.

Other countries in “The West” are not exempt from the hate, and are included with the U.S. and Israel as comprising an empire which can only be overcome – and ultimately destroyed – by years of “resistance," a euphemism for terrorism.

“Do not forget that when the crusades came to the region we resisted for 200 years,” the father reminds his son. “For 200 years there were wars. We too have the ability to resist for many years. We will not become like the Indians, put in cages for the world to watch, as they are doing now in Guantanamo with the remaining al-Qaeda.”

It is ironic the American taxpayers are sending tax dollars to a government which seems bent on their destruction. Egypt is one of the largest beneficiaries of U.S. foreign aid in the world.

According to PMW, the Palestinian Authority has also received large sums of money from the U.S., despite its encouragement of terrorist activities both in the Middle East and across the world. One specific example of this would be the celebrations which took place throughout the PA and the Arab world after the September 11 attack. In the aftermath of that tragedy, PA Arabs danced in the streets and distributed candies and other sweets to each other.
