In a plea bargain reached with the chief prosecutor’s office, Minister of Infrastructure Avigdor Lieberman pled guilty to assaulting and threatening a youth from his town of Nokdim. Under the terms of the agreement, Lieberman agreed not to repeat the offense and will pay a fine. Tomorrow, the Jerusalem Magistrate Court will decide whether or not to accept the plea bargain reached between the sides and, if so, set the amount of the fine.

According to the prosecution, Lieberman assaulted two youths who had beaten up Lieberman’s son in Nokdim in December, 1999. At the time of the filing of charges, the parents of one of the youths appeared in the Israel media and stated that, in his opinion, Lieberman was innocent, but that the police decided to pursue the case in any event.
