As of early this morning, before the murder near Nokdim, Foreign Minister Peres and Yasser Arafat were still planning to meet this evening, and Peres even said that Arafat “is making genuine efforts to cease the violence, and has even prevented some attacks.” Infrastructures Minister Avigdor Lieberman, a resident of Nokdim, said before news of this morning’s murder -that Arafat is a “dangerous terrorist,” and “we must not negotiate with terrorists.” The Yesha Council announced this morning that in light of the “highly successful ceasefire, Prime Minister Sharon should also join the Peres-Arafat meeting.” Shas party leader Eli Yeshai observed that the ceasefire announced by Arafat is nothing more than a delusion.

Instead of the Peres-Arafat meeting, Sharon will convene the mini-security cabinet this evening. It was learned this morning, however, that Omri Sharon, the Prime Minister’s son and unofficial envoy, met with Arafat in Gaza on Sunday.
