A new mediation proposal reportedly calls for the release of $6 billion in frozen Iranian funds in exchange for Iran allowing International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) inspectors to visit its nuclear sites.
According to the Qatari-based Al-Araby Al-Jadeed news outlet, Qatar and Pakistan are behind the proposal, which would release $6 billion in interest accrued on Iranian funds frozen in Qatari banks in return for a covert visit by IAEA inspectors to Iran’s nuclear facilities.
The report says the proposal has received US approval and preliminary Iranian agreement. However, no official confirmation of an agreement has been issued.
