US Envoy to Syria Tom Barrack accused Israel of carrying out airstrikes on the Abu al-Duhur Airbase in Syria, calling the strikes an “unnecessary escalation" that does not advance regional stability. Israel has not acknowledged the strike.
Barrack said the Al-Sharra government has not adopted a “predatory posture" or maintained proxy forces, and has repeatedly indicated a preference for de-escalation with Israel. He said the US would continue to host discussions aimed at encouraging diplomacy over military action.
“The United States continues to believe that restraint and engagement offer the more constructive course," Barrack said, urging all parties to prioritize dialogue over further military incidents.
