Hamas sources told Asharq Al-Awsat that released prisoner Ali al-Amoudi, a member of the group’s political bureau, is currently serving as the de facto head of the bureau’s operations in the Gaza Strip.

Al-Amoudi, who was released in the 2011 Gilad Shalit deal, is considered the most central and influential figure in Gaza’s management and is identified as one of Yahya Sinwar’s closest associates.
