Following US President Donald Trump’s announcement that strikes were carried out against ISIS in Nigeria, the US military stated that the airstrikes were conducted at the request of Nigerian authorities. US Africa Command emphasized that the strike targeted ISIS positions in the northwest of the country and resulted in the elimination of several terrorists.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Foreign Ministry said that “the strikes were carried out as part of ongoing security cooperation with the United States, involving intelligence sharing and strategic coordination against armed groups.”
