Polls opened this morning for Iraq’s parliamentary elections. Senior cleric Muqtada al-Sadr and millions of his supporters are boycotting the vote, while Prime Minister Mohammed al-Sudani seeks a second term.
At the same time, parties affiliated with the Shiite militias are facing a public test amid growing calls for their disarmament.
