After Turkey announced that it would sever economic ties with Israel, Minister of Diaspora Affairs Amichai Chikli wrote on social media: "This is the new Axis of Evil - fusing together two of the most dangerous imperialist visions of our time: Erdogan’s neo-Ottomanism, and the dream of a caliphate championed by al-Qaeda’s leader in Syria and by the Muslim Brotherhood in Qatar.
"Anyone who fails to see this, fails to understand both fundamentalist Islam and the true nature of the Middle East."
