The US military is reducing its forces in the Middle East: the aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson has left the region and is now in the Indian Ocean, likely en route to its home port in San Diego.

Of the five American warships designated for intercepting ballistic missiles, only one now remains in the eastern Mediterranean.
