As part of the government's efforts to rehabilitate southern Israel and strengthen the connection between the periphery and central Israel, Minister Ze'ev Elkin announced after a budget meeting with Prime Minister's Office director Yossi Shelly, that train service will return to the city of Sderot with the help of funding from the Tkuma Authority and the Defense Ministry.
