Approved in first reading: Two deputy mayors for municipalities with more than 100,000 people

The Knesset approved the Local Authorities Bill in its first reading. The bill passed with a majority of 47 supporters and 37 opponents.

The bill stipulates that a local authority with a population of more than 100,000 people will have two deputy mayors, lowering the current requirement of at least 150,000 residents. The bill will now be forwarded to the Interior and Environmental Protection Committee for further deliberation.
