Labor Minister Yoav Ben-Tzur yesterday signed an order shortening the shifts of medical interns at Israeli hospitals.

According to the outline, the shortening of the shifts will apply in ten hospitals in the periphery. The maximum length of a working day for a doctor on duty in peripheral hospitals on weekdays shall not exceed 19 hours, and up to a maximum of 21 hours, starting this September. Medical interns have long complained of the 26-hour shifts they have been forced to take.
