The so-called "Tiberias Law", which will allow the head of an elected committee to run in the local elections for the city in which he serves, passed in its second and third readings in the Knesset on Tuesday night. The bill passed by a majority of 43 to 32.
The law will allow the chairman of the committee in Tiberias and an associate of Shas chairman Aryeh Deri, Boaz Yosef, to run for mayor in the upcoming elections to be held at the end of October.
