Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich and the Governor of the Bank of Israel, Prof. Amir Yaron, met on Wednesday evening for a prearranged discussion on the steps to be taken with the banks in light of the increase in interest rates in the economy.

During the meeting, there was a professional discussion on the issues of regulation and the promotion of competition in the banking system, including a preliminary discussion on the proposed taxation of excess profits on the banking sector that the Ministry of Finance is considering promoting at the same time as the set of tools being formed as part of the fight against the cost of living.
