Israel's chief rabbi, Rabbi David Lau, refers to the extreme left-wing struggle against the Ma'ale Eliyahu Yeshiva in Tel Aviv, "The price is disconnection from the Jewish people and the Land of Israel."

In order to accomodate the expansion of a school near the Ma'ale Eliyahu Yeshiva near Ichilov Hospital in Tel Aviv, an agreement was signed to move it to a new premises 500 yards north of its current location. The secular residents of the neighborhood are rejecting the existence of the yeshiva, calling it a plot to bring in a right-wing religious institution into their area. The yeshiva has been in place since 1996.
