The Department of Police Investigations submitted to the Haifa Magistrate's Court an indictment against Saleh Salah, head of a police patrol shift, after he forged the signatures of drivers on traffic tickets and prevented their delivery to drivers who were required to pay an increased fine.
According to the indictment, which was filed through attorney Adi Wallnerman and investigated by a team at the police investigation department, on several occasions during the month of June 2020 the accused filled out traffic tickets for drivers and forged their signatures on the tickets even though he did not talk to them at all, did not inform them of the reason for receiving the tickets and did not give them the copies of the tickets that he had filled out for them. The accused handed over the original tickets that he had filled out with the forged signatures to the authorized body in the police for the purpose of entering them into the police system.
The defendant kept the copies of the tickets, which as a rule should be given to the drivers, in his possession and did not indicate that the copies of the tickets were not given to them. As a result, the drivers, who did not receive the copies of the tickets, did not pay the fine on the specified payment date. Accordingly, the fine amounts accumulated additional arrears, and the citizens were required to pay an increased fine. The indictment attributes to the defendant the commission of forgery by a public servant and abuse of official power.
