The attorney general published today (Sunday) her comments on the dismissal of the Tel Aviv Police District Commander Ami Ashad.

According to her, this is an "abnormal decision that deviated from the accepted procedure in the police. There are several facts that raise significant concerns that the decision was made improperly; and that the process of making it, with an emphasis on its timing and the timing of its publication, was tainted by extraneous considerations. Therefore, the attorney general suggested the decision should be retracted and reconsidered a new after the Commander had been given a chance to present his point of view in accordance with the established procedures."

The minister must "refrain from giving operative instructions to the police, either directly or indirectly. The authority of the minister regarding appointments, including determining the timing and date of their publication, cannot be used as a tool for indirect operative intervention in the operations of the police. Noting that this legal position arises from the existing law, the state believes that there is no need for the requested interim order".
