Principal Deputy Spokesperson for the State Department, Vedant Patel commented on the possible appointment of Likud MK May Golan to the Israeli consulate in New York.
In a conversation with reporters, Patel said he condemns what Golan said at a demonstration against African refugees and infiltrators in 2012 - that she was "proud to be a racist."
"We condemn this kind of rhetoric and believe that such language is also harmful, especially when it is empowered in leadership positions," he added.
