The Yesh Atid party has declared itself committed to "preserving Israeli democracy" as judicial reform negotiations are set to open today at the President's Residence.

"The Israeli contract is being breached and we must fix it," the party said in a statement. "In order to make historic changes, the time has come now, 75 years after the State was founded, to strengthen Israeli democracy and anchor it in law. During the coming days we will present a debate on a new Basic Law: The Declaration of Independence," the party added, even though the Declaration says nothing whatsoever about democracy.

"Also this morning we stress our obligation to protect the composition of the Judicial Selections Committee so that politicians will not be able to appoint judges," they added. "We have an obligation to the hundreds of thousands of wonderful Israeli patriots who have been coming out onto the streets for the past 15 weeks in order to protect our country and our democracy."
