Minister Miri Regev, who is in charge of the events of the 75th Independence Day of the State of Israel, informed the educator Yehudit Negousa that she had been chosen from among the recommendations of the public advisory committee to light a torch on Mount Herzl on Independence Day.
Judith Negousa is the founder and head of the pre-military academy "Opportunity to Change", a seminary that operates in Kibbutz Ein Hasholsha, near the Gaza border. The school appeals to boys who have been exempted from conscription due to incompatibility and a criminal record and are ready to go through an intensive change process, giving them a second chance for meaningful military service.
Negousa, a member of an Ethiopian family, previously served in the General Security Service. After her release, she turned to teaching in the world of pre-military academies and worked extensively to integrate the young people of the Ethiopian community and the Israeli periphery into such academies.
