At the end of a joint investigation by the National Cyber Authority and the Technion University, it was found that the cyber attack on the Technion about 3 weeks ago was carried out by an attack group known as MuddyWater, which is affiliated with Iran's Ministry of Intelligence and Security.
The investigation revealed that the group made use of a malware designed to encrypt operating systems. The Cyber Authority distributed identifiers of the attack to organizations so that they could block similar attempts as well as recommendations for ways to defend themselves.
