Israel's chief rabbi, Rabbi David Lau, paid tribute to the Yaniv brothers at their funeral on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.

"We are near the graves Hillel and Yagel, and how can we be comforted when we see two young men and understand that they are no longer with us? I had the privilege of knowing both grandfathers," he said.

"I asked the grandfather Rabbi Shmuel Yaniv about the younger brother: 'Is this the youngest son?' and he answered me: 'This is the only son.' We see these wonderful families in pain and hear the words coming from their hearts. Let the two children be messengers [to G-d] and tell Him that they cannot bear to see their families crying and want see them happy."
