The Ministerial Committee for Legislative Matters today approved the bill establishing the 'National Authority to Fight Poverty' in preparation for preliminary reading.
Shas chairman Aryeh Deri commented: "This is good news for the State of Israel. For the first time, the government is taking active responsibility for the poverty situation in Israel, and is giving incentives to disadvantaged populations to get them out of the cycle of poverty. The new authority will provide a concentrated response to all the elements of poverty in cooperation with the relevant government ministries".
