MK Nir Orbach (Yamina), who had considered opposing the formation of the Bennett-Lapid government, is expected to support the formation of the government, a source in the new coalition told Globes Monday.
According to the report, Orbach will support the formation of the government and thus give it the required 61 MKs, and at the same time will be appointed Settlement Affairs Minister, a position currently held by Minister Tzachi Hanegbi. The Yamina party denied the report.
Earlier today, the heads of the municipal councils in Judea and Samaria sent a letter to Orbach urging him to vote against the formation of the new government led by Yair Lapid and Naftali Bennett.
The heads of the councils clarified that the position of the chairman of the Yesha Council, David Elhayani, who supports the unity government, does not represent them. "In the last day, the chairman of the Yesha Council expressed support for the formation of the new government and even met with you on this issue. One can mistakenly think that this is the official position of the Yesha Council or that this is the opinion of most of the heads of the authorities in Judea and Samaria, and it is not."
"We, the undersigned, call on you not to turn your back on the national public, but to be true to your values, values in whose name you acted in the long-standing public action and on the basis of which you ran for the Knesset," they wrote.
