The Blue and White party on Monday slammed Finance Minister Yisrael Katz (Likud) for calling for a government meeting to be held Monday afternoon.

"Yisrael Katz prevented the citizens of Israel from having a state budget, and with his own hands he has harmed the ability of hundreds of thousands of citizens to recover from the coronavirus crisis," Blue and White said in a statement.

Earlier on Monday, Katz had voiced concern that if the meeting were not held as planned, the budget for purchasing additional doses of coronavirus vaccines later on would not pass. As such, he called on Gantz to put politics aside for the sake of managing the pandemic.

On Sunday night, Blue and White's leader, Defense Minister Benny Gantz, announced his refusal to attend the Monday meeting, effectively canceling it entirely.

Soon afterwards, the Likud said: "For appointments and jobs, Gantz is preventing the signing of contracts for millions of vaccines which are necessary for the citizens of Israel, ahead of the next vaccine. If the government does not immediately approve the contracts, the vaccine companies may cancel them and transfer them to other countries."

Blue and White then replied: "The Likud is lying. The decision they proposed is full of holes and anyways cannot be voted on. [Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin] Netanyahu is up to his neck in legal issues and intends to trample the rule of law."
