Fashion designer Pierre Cardin died at the age of 98, the Secretary of the French Academy of Fine Arts, Laurent Petitgirard, announced Tuesday.
Born in Italy, near Venice, to a wealthy wine merchant, Cardin moved with his family to France in 1924.
Twelve years later, at the age of 14, Cardin became a tailor’s apprentice, launching a career in fashion which lasted seven decades.
