
The number of new cases reported of the coronavirus during a twenty-four hour period rose to its highest level in two months, according to data released by the Israeli Health Ministry Wednesday morning.
Four-hundred-and-thirty-six more cases of the novel coronavirus were confirmed on Tuesday, the largest number since April 22nd, when 556 new cases were detected.
The record number of new cases identified in a single day in Israel is 765, recorded on April 2nd.
Along with the 436 cases reported Tuesday, 69 additional cases have been confirmed Wednesday morning as of 10:50 a.m.
The infection rate – that is, the number of tests taken each day which return positive – has stabilized above 2%, after climbing over the past three weeks from under 1.5%. While just 1.9% of tests came back positive on Sunday, 2.4% of tests Monday and 2.3% of tests Tuesday yielded positive results. Of the 2,658 tests conducted thus far Wednesday, 2.6% have been positive.
A total of 21,666 people have been infected with the coronavirus since the beginning of the pandemic, with 5,460 cases currently active, compared to 5,127 active cases on Tuesday and 4,848 active cases on Monday.
Eighty-six people have recovered from the virus since Tuesday morning, including seven who recovered on Wednesday, pushing the total number of recoveries to 15,898.
The number of serious cases climbed slightly, rising from 42 Tuesday morning to 45 Wednesday morning, though that number is still below the 46 serious cases reported Monday.
A further 44 people are in moderate condition, with the remaining cases all listed as light.
Twenty-eight people are currently on ventilators, up from 27 on Tuesday, but down from the 29 who were on ventilators Monday.
