“Do not lose out on the chance to be a part of this historical purchase", requested Avigail and Hillel Moskovitz. The Moskovitz’s made aliyah 15 years ago and settled in Efrat. Now they fulfilled their dream and bought an apartment in Beit Hashalom. “Beit Hashalom strengthens the Jewish presence on the roadway that connects Kiryat Arba to Mearat Hamachpela'', they declare.

The Moskovitz family is not alone in this historical purchase. They joined a list of families that, together, are creating this new community in Hebron's Beit Hashalom neighborhood. As the Moskovitzs explain, “Currently, when we walk to Mearat Hamachpela, we recognize that the Jewish presence is very limited. With the construction of this new neighborhood, we feel the situation will change. It is so important for there to be a strong Jewish population in Hebron. This is a Zionist ideal."

It seems the story of Jewish Hebron everyone knows. Up until 53 years ago it was a distant dream to be able to daven in Mearat Hamachpela or to live in the city where King David established the first capital. Since the city’s liberation, the Jewish presence is growing and Jews continuously visit and tour the city.

One of the first historical landmarks in Hebron was the purchase of Beit HaShalom just over 10 years ago. It has been over 6 years where families have been living in Beit HaShalom and have transformed the pathway from Kiryat Arba to Merat Hamachpela by increasing the Jewish presence.

For over 2 months the construction has been swiftly progressing. The structure is being constructed to the highest building standards with firm attention to the smallest of details for a state-of-the-art building. In addition, Beit HaShalom will be a new vibrant Jewish neighborhood, a 5 minute walk from Merat Hamachpela. The difference in this purchase will be that each owner will be able to register their apartment in Tabo for the first time since the massacre of 1929.

Yonah Cohen from the Yishuv of Tekoa, also decided not to miss out on this historical opportunity and purchase an apartment in Beit Hashalom. “ The minute I had a chance to purchase a brand new apartment in Hebron, I jumped on the opportunity” she says. “Beit Hashalom is perfectly located for me, just 5 minutes from Mearat Hamachpela. It has all the other amenities that I need including public transportation. My apartment window looks over the Wadi straight into Kiryat Arba."

Do you think this purchasing opportunity is for the wealthy only? Not at all! This project is affordable. Even though at this point no bank will grant a mortgage for the purchase, that did not stop Avigail and Hillel. "We do not have any financial backing and we made aliyah straight out of college. We wanted this to be a teaching lesson for our children; living in Israel is a dream, but to settle the land is THE ultimate dream."

Yona Cohen sees this purchase as a solid real-estate investment. She believes it's an equitable transaction. “ I feel, on one hand, very honored to be able to live in Hebron, but on the other hand, I believe this property will increase in value over time."

The organization behind this unique project is 'Harchivi Makom Ohaleich'. 'Harchivi' has been working tirelessly over many years to purchase and redeem more homes in Hebron. Their goal is to grow and expand the Jewish presence as much as possible in Hebron. Their other properties in Hebron include: Beit Hamachpela, Beit Rachel and Beit Leah.

“We are continuing the legacy of our forefather Avraham. He began by acquiring Mearat Hamachpela and the surrounding area” stated Rav Uziyahu Sharbaf, Chairman of Harchivi. “This is a very unique and historical opportunity to be part of the growth of Hebron. We invite you to be a part and purchase an apartment in the 'backyard' of Mearat Hamachpela.”
