The US Justice Department has filed a lawsuit to prevent the publication of former National Security Advisor John Bolton's memoirs detailing his time in the Trump Administration.

The Justice Department claimed in the lawsuit that the 592-page book contains classified information. Bolton's lawyer has denied the claim.

The lawsuit is unlikely to delay the book's publication, as the early copies have already been distributed.

The lawsuit claims that that the publication of the book would risk “compromising national security by publishing a book containing classified information — in clear breach of agreements he signed as a condition of his employment."

US President Donald Trump said if the book is published he would face "criminal liability'" because of the classified information it allegedly contains.

Bolton's book, 'The Room Where it Happened,' is scheduled to go on sale next week.
