Prime Minister Netanyahu on Sunday opened the weekly cabinet meeting by addressing the sharp rise in diagnosed coronavirus infections in the past week and a half.

"I summoned the Corona Cabinet for a meeting tomorrow following the rise in infections and loosening of discipline."

He added, "The defense minister, health minister and I will go today to the Biological Institute and receive an update about efforts to find a vaccine."

The prime minister also addressed the Iranian issue.

"At the end of last week, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) determined that Iran was refusing to authorize IAEA inspections of secret sites where it is conducting nuclear research for military purposes," he said.

"Iran is systematically breaking its commitments to allow the monitoring of its atomic sites, enriching nuclear material, and committing other violations. I believe that the time has come ... for the international community to join the United States in reimposing crushing sanctions on Iran," Netanyahu added.

"In any case, the coronavirus has not led to any lessening of our resolve to take action against Iran," he added. "I repeat: Israel will not allow Iran to acquire nuclear weapons, and we will continue to act according to our interests when it comes to protecting ourselves from Iranian attempts to establish military outposts at our borders."
